Eye Conditions We Treat
There are many different types of eye conditions and it’s important to go to your optometrist to diagnose any of them. Your optometrist at iCare4Vision in Wheaton, IL, can help diagnose and treat any of the following.
Refractory issues
Refractory issues are commonly known as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Refractory issues occur when the shape of the eye stops light from focusing directly on the retina. Most people tend to have one or more of any of these conditions.
- Nearsightedness- A condition where objects up close appear clearly, while objects far away appear blurry.
- Farsightedness- A condition where objects at a distance are seen more clearly than objects that are near. However, for people with severe farsightedness, objects may be blurry at any distance.
- Astigmatism- A condition where the eye does not focus light evenly on the retina, and can cause images to appear blurry and stretched out.
- Presbyopia- An age-related condition where the ability to focus up close becomes more difficult.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma comes in different forms, but with all types, the nerve connecting the eye to the brain is damaged, usually because of high eye pressure. The most common type of glaucoma (open-angle) often has no symptoms other than slow vision loss. Angle-closure glaucoma is fairly rare, but is a medical emergency and the symptoms include eye pain with nausea and sudden visual disturbance. Treatment for glaucoma includes eye drops, medications, and surgery.
Cataracts
Cataracts causes the vision to become foggy and blurry. Most cataracts develop slowly over years. When cataracts begin to interfere with someone’s day-to-day life, the cloudy lens can be replaced with a clear, artificial lens, and this is a safe, outpatient procedure.
